Brigadier-General Guy Laroche enrolled in the Canadian Forces in
1979 and completed his training as an infantry officer in 1980. On
completion of his training he was posted to the Royal 22ième
Régiment in Valcartier, Quebec.
Throughout his career he served with the three battalions of the Royal 22 ième Régiment in
various positions and commanded the 1st Battalion, Royal 22ième Régiment. He also served in
St-Jean, Quebec, as a Squadron Commander at the Royal Military College, in Valcartier as Base
Personnel Services Officer and G3 of the 5th Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group, in Ottawa as
staff officer in the Directorate of Land Information Resources (DLIR) in National Defence
Headquarters (NDHQ), and in Kingston, Ontario, where he occupied a position as Directing Staff
at the Canadian Land Forces Command and Staff College.
Brigadier-General Laroche served twice under the auspices of the United Nations in Cyprus
(1981 and 1992). He also served at two occasions in Bosnia-Herzegovina (1997 and 1999) as
Chief of Staff of the 5th Canadian Multinational Brigade and as Battle Group Commander.
Finally, he took part in the 1990 Native American crisis in Kahnawake, Canada as Company
Commander and the Summit of the Americas in Quebec City, Canada, in April 2001 as Land
Component Commander.
Promoted to Colonel in July 2004, he assumed the duties of J3 International at NDHQ, and
following Army Transformation, he was appointed J3 of the Canadian Expedition Force
Command (CEFCOM), responsible for the day to day operations of over 18 deployments
spanning the globe. In July 2006, he was appointed Commander 5 Canadian Mechanized
Brigade Group. Immediately upon promotion to his current rank on 30 March 2007, he was
appointed Commander of Joint Task Force Afghanistan Roto 4.
Brigadier-General Laroche is a graduate of the Canadian Land Force Command and Staff
College, Kingston, Ontario; the Canadian Forces Staff College in Toronto, Ontario; and the
Industrial College of the Armed Forces, Washington, DC. He holds a Baccalaureate in Business
Administration from the Université du Québec and a Master Degree in Science from the National
Defence University, Washington, DC
